Do You Choose the White House or Your House?

We will honor our leaders February 15th on Presidents Day.  While being chosen President is an honor it comes with a price.  As a public official and always in the spotlight, this may sound glorious to some, to others this can be a horror show.  The need to gowhite house to your home to “be yourself” is a luxury most of us take for granted.   The White house has ample room to “get away” in fact, it has approximately 55,000 square feet, 132 rooms, 32 bathrooms, and 6 levels to accommodate all the people who live in, work in, and visit the White House. There are also 412 doors, 147 windows, 28 fireplaces, 7 staircases, and 3 elevators..   This expansive home while rent free to the President, just about nothing else is. The president and first lady pay for their food, parties, vacations, butlers, housekeepers, ushers… and at Ritz Carlton prices.

As we reflect and honor our leaders we should also thank them for providing us the opportunity to own our own homes.  While most Colorado homes have three bedroom, two bath’s, and a two car garage, it doesn’t compare to the President’s enormous home but it is “home”.  We choose our decor, who to entertain, what kind of food to eat all at a price that is NOT at the Ritz Carlton prices.  Although most of us would not want the job of President, living at the White House might sound fun for a weekend.
